In the Free State of Thuringia, there are about 10,000 scientists carrying out research at more than 40 institutes and universities in close cooperation with industry. The research landscape includes renowned non-university institutions such as the Fraunhofer and Max Planck Society, the Helmholtz and Leibniz Association, as well as business-oriented research institutions, and nine state universities.
Are you looking for competent researchers to develop a new product? Do you want to participate in research projects and share your entrepreneurial know-how? Showroom Wissenschaft provides all information. The overview gives you three examples of successful research work.
The research Partners EAH Jena University of Applied Sciences and 3D-Schilling research and develop methods for the production of molded plastic parts. Their projects enable them to discover new areas of potential.
Can molded plastic parts be conductive? They can! The partners were able to make molded plastic parts conductive by integrating carbon nanotube (CNT)-containing polymer blends. Thanks to an idea from the researchers, the injection-molded plastic carriers can be prepared in such a way that the generation of conductor path structures becomes possible. Components can therefore function as components of the housing or as circuit carriers. The direct linking of mechanical and electronic functions is highly relevant for many applications and is needed for new product generations.
In another project, scientists at the Jena University of Applied Sciences and development engineers of 3D-Schilling GmbH were able to develop a process chain for the production of 3D plastic molded parts with macro material gradients using the PolyJet matrix method and successfully transfer the rapid prototyping component with macro material gradients to pre-series production.

To the main view
The high scientific level in Thuringia is rooted in its outstanding non-university research institutions, business-oriented research institutes, and development service providers. They thrive on the close collaboration between science and research, and are geared to the requirements of small, medium-sized and large Enterprises.
Close cooperation between Thuringian universities, institutes and regional industry ensures excellent knowledge transfer and creates highly trained young scientists. Strategic partnerships offer an intensive exchange of knowledge, such as in the Thuringian Innovation Center for Mobility at TU Ilmenau, or in the Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry (CEEC) at the University in Jena.
Five application centers and seven technology and business incubators offer need-based infrastructure to young innovative companies and business start-ups in Thuringia. The centers have offices and special facilities such as laboratories, clean rooms and workshops. They provide comprehensive consulting services and develop network structures and synergies.
