Grenzflächen zwischen biologischen und nichtbiologischen Materialien bilden den anwendungsorientierten Forschungsfokus „Biotechniques at Interfaces“ des außeruniversitären Forschungsinstituts. Ihrer aktiven Gestaltung kommt in den Lebenswissenschaften für verschiedenste Anwendungen eine herausragende Bedeutung zu. Das interdisziplinäre Team aus Naturwissenschaftlern, Ingenieuren und Technikern ist Partner für Projekt- und Auftragsforschung sowie für die Produktentwicklung und bringt in Kooperationen ein breites Spektrum an anspruchsvoller Forschungstechnik und modernsten Laboren ein.

Forschungsgebiete mit Kooperationspotenzial für die Wirtschaft:

• Prozessoptimierte, modulare Bioimpedanzmesssysteme (mHz bis 100 GHz) für die Bioanalytik, das Umweltmonitoring, die Lebensmittelanalytik  sowie für medizinische Anwendungen von der Einzelzell- und Gewebe- bis zur Materialcharakterisierung
• Elektroden und Front-Ends für die schnelle, breitbandige Bioimpedanzspektroskopie
• Entwicklung unterschiedlicher Kultivierungsverfahren für prokaryotische und eukariotische Zellen von der Einzelzellkultivierung bis in den Litermaßstab einschließlich Prozessanalytik
• Anwendungsorientierte Applikationen der Segemented-Flow-Technik, insbesondere auf der Basis der institutseigenen Technologieplattform „pipe base bioreactors®“ (pbb)
• Struktur- und oberflächenrelevante Funktionalisierung von Biomaterialien für Biotechnologie, Bioanalytik und Medizintechnik auf organischer und anorganischer Basis, z.B. mittels 2-Photonen-Technik
• Topographische und physikochemische Analyse sowie biologische in-vitro-Testung von Biofunktionalität und Biokompatibilität von Biomaterialien mit einem breiten Spektrum anspruchsvoller Analysenmethoden

Interfaces between biological and non-biological materials constitute the application-oriented research focus “Biotechniques at Interfaces” of this extramural research institution. In the field of life sciences, their active design is of paramount importance for a wide variety of applications. The interdisciplinary team made up of life scientists, engineers and technicians is a partner for project and contract research, as well as for product development, and provides a wide range of sophisticated research technology and state-of-the-art laboratories when it collaborates with its partners.

Forschungsgebiete mit Kooperationspotenzial für die Wirtschaft:

• Process-optimized, modular bioimpedance measuring systems (mHz to 100 GHz) for bioanalytics, environmental monitoring, food analysis, as well as for medical applications for single cell, tissue and material characterization
• Electrodes and front ends for fast, broadband bioimpedance spectroscopy
• Development of different cultivation methods for prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells from single cell
• cultivation to the liter scale, including process analysis
• Application-oriented applications of the segmented flow technology, particularly on the basis of the
• institute's own technology platform “pipe base bioreactors®” (pbb)
• Structure and surface-relevant functionalization of biomaterials for biotechnology, bioanalytics and
• medical technology on an organic and inorganic basis, e.g., using the 2-photon technique
• Topographic and physicochemical analysis, as well as biological in vitro testing of biofunctionality and
• biocompatibility of biomaterials with a wide range of sophisticated analytical methods
